Anurag Basu Facts

He is a cancer survivor and was diagnosed with acute leukemia (blood cancer) while shooting for the Emraan Hashmi-starrer Tumsa Nahin Dekha in 2004. Such was his dedication that Basu supervised the direction of the film while receiving treatment from his hospital bed.

When he was diagnosed with blood cancer in 2004, doctors said that he had only 2 weeks left to live. His wife was also pregnant at that time.

He teamed up with Ranbir Kapoor to launch the production house Picture Shuru Productions in 2013.

His box office smash-hit Barfi! was nominated as the official selection for ‘Best Foreign Language Film’ at the 85th Academy Awards. However, it failed to be shortlisted in the final top 5 list.
